Chocolate Almond Smoothie

February 28, 2018~    I’ve been enjoying this smoothie for a while now… I love how it has all the things I need and require to fuel my body and give me sustained energy… protein, fiber, fat.

That mid-afternoon slump you get?  Kiss it goodbye… no need for caffeine or sugar to get you going again.  Having this for lunch will absolutely do the trick.  All those healthy fats, fiber and protein work like magic to keep cravings at bay and to keep you satiated!

Super quick tip:  eating low-fat is so out… eating healthy fats is in… things like coconut oil, nut butters, avocado, chia seeds.

I know the calories scare us (it took some time for me to really get over this) but sugar and junky carbs is what’s keeping us sick, fat, and tired…. not healthy fats:)

Balance your plate with protein, fiber and fat and let me know how you’re feeling, I think you’ll like it!

Enjoy this easy-peasy recipe anytime you want something chocolatey, you’re running low on time, you have a phone call to make during lunchtime, or need to be in the car during lunch, whatever!  You get the idea!  You can make this ahead of time, too!

Chocolate Almond Smoothie

makes 1 serving

  • 1 1/4 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1-2 scoops vanilla protein powder (buy a good protein powder- I’ve listed my 3 favorites)
  • 1 scoop Bulletproof Collagen Protein (optional but oh so good for your bones and joints- it’s kind of pricey so I use one scoop to make it last)
  • 2 T cacao powder
  • 1T almond butter
  • 2T flax seed meal (the kind that’s already ground up for you- better this way for easier absorption)
  • 1/2 banana, frozen is ideal because it thickens up the smoothie)

Protein Powders I like:

All of these can be ordered on Amazon and I have found the collagen protein at Whole Foods along with the cacao powder.  I have a friend who has started to use collagen in her coffee and has noticed her arthritis symptoms diminishing.  Now, that’s what I call fueling your body with good stuff.

The cacao powder I like-

Can you believe the fiber content in cacao powder?  I mean, this is true chocolate, and it’s actually good for you in this form!  I’m not sure how well this photo shows you but the nutrition facts for cacao are impressive- 5g of fiber and 4g of protein in 2.5T.  Replace your cocoa powder with this for sure- even in your baked goods or homemade mochas:)
